Annalisa Contato_Architect

S

Architect, architectural engineer and PhD in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Palermo, with a dissertation research focused on polycentrism, city networks and gateway cities. She is a II level Master in “Valorisation and management of minor historical centers” at the Study Center “Città di Orvieto”. Since 2014 she is a Research Fellow in Urban Studies at the Department of Architecture (DARCH) of the University of Palermo. In recent years she has worked in different researches at the Department of Architecture of the University of Palermo deepening her research interests on issues of strategic planning, urban and waterfront regeneration, smart cities and urban metabolism. She is, also, member of the National Research “RE-CYCLE Italy. New Life Cycles for Architecture and Infrastructure of City and Landscape” (PRIN 2011). Currently in the laboratory her research interests include “Method and tools for integrated urban and territorial planning on the rural urban areas  for local development policies creative driven and for the ecological sustainability of the settlements within the Strategy Europe 2020”.

Carmelo Galati Tardanico_Architect

GalatiArchitect and PhD in Urban and Regional Planning. His main research fields are Urban Metabolism, Smart and Green City and the issues about urban sustainability. In 2011 he won a scholarship within the research “Atlante Sicilia: Nodi e reti per un nuovo progetto di sviluppo della città” at the Department of Architecture of the University of Palermo. He is a Research Fellow in Urban Studies at the Department of Architecture (DARCH) of the University of Palermo and is conducting a research entitled “SMART CITY: planning smart, sustainable and inclusive city. Methods, tools and practices for regulating the urban times and cycles” within the i-NEXT Project. Currently he is, also, part of the National Research “RE-CYCLE Italy. New Life Cycles for Architecture and Infrastructure of City and Landscape” (PRIN 2011).

Raffaella Riva Sanseverino_Architect

raffaellaArchitect and PhD in Urban Planning and Architecture at the University of Palermo, she has taught Urban Planning since 2002 and having done two research contracts in 2001 and 2007 at the same University. She currently is a Research Fellow in Urban Studies at the Department of Architecture (DARCH) of the University of Palermo.  She is an expert of urban energy policies and she has also conducted several research on the smart city topic. In the laboratory she is currently conducting a research on the Municipal Building Regulation of Palermo within the i-Next project.  She has authored several publications in national and international journals, including: R. Riva Sanseverino (2014), E. Riva Sanseverino, V. Vaccaro, G. Zizzo (Eds), Smart rules for smart cities: managing efficient cities in euromediterranean countries, Springer for Innovations, Springer.

Jessica Smeralda Oliva_Architect

Oliva JS

Architect, her main issues are urban regeneration, smart cities, urban metabolism and landscape urbanism.
She collaborates in the research project PRIN 2011 “Re-cycle Italy” (coordinated at the national level by Renato Bocchi – IUAV), as a member of the local research group coordinated by Maurizio Carta at the University of Palermo.
From May 2014 she started to collaborate with the Department of Engineering (DICEA) of the University of Naples “Federico II”, working on smart cities and metropolitan cities. Currently she works within SmartPlanning, focusing her studies on the metropolitan area of Palermo and smart city initiatives.

Claudio Schifani_Architect

Architect and PhD in Urban and Territorial Planning, he is GIS specialist (Master). The training is enriched by participation in conferences and workshops including the AESOP PhD Workshop 2006 (International Summer School for doctoral research) at the University of the West of England in Bristol. He worked at University of Venice IUAV about “Cognitive models and decision making.” until 2009. Lately he worked at the National Research Council of Pisa as graduated fellow and Geographical Information System expert about Hydroinformatics numerical models for regional planning and participated as speaker in national and international symposium about GIS themes. In the laboratory he performs spatial dataset recognition about sensable and material city, develops methodology and approach on innovative urban analysis about mobility and energy themes.

Carla Tumminello_Urban Planner 

P

Urban planner, she attended the specialization course “Public Energy Manager” at the Study Center Cerisdi (Palermo) for a training of managerial figure to support public institutions engaged in the implementation of environmental policies and energy savings.
As part of the Covenant of Mayors, in collaboration with So.Svi.Ma, she worked on Energy Audit of the public buildings of the city network Madonie – Termini Imerese in order to collect the data to the elaboration of Action Plan for Sustainable Energy.
Currently she works within SmartPlanning Lab regarding dissemination of results and construction of urban governance processes.

 Marina Bonomolo_Architect

marinaArchitect, she  collaborate for teaching with the University of Palermo. She has worked with other architects as a specialist on projects for public and private lighting and architectural design. Currently she is involved in a training course about NZEB (Near zero energy building, building automation and smart planning) within the i-Next project. In the laboratory she has analysed the state of art of Municipal Building Regulations for energy efficiency in Itlay. She’s currently trainee at “Exalto Energy&Innovation”.

Gabriella Di Filippo_Architect

Architect, she attended a Master in “Virtual Design Innovation” based upon the fields of Digital 2D and advanced 3D techniques with particular attention to innovative architectural design and the presentation of animated multimedia; she is enables to advanced skills on 3D digital techniques. Currently she is involved in a training course about NZEB (Near zero energy building ,building automation and smart planning) within the i-NEXT project. Gabriella in the laboratory is engaged in creation of conceptual maps as well as 3D modeling.

Davide Emmolo_Engineer

Civil engineer, he is a PhD in Geomatics, a master in GIS and a master in Forensic Sciences. Since 2007 he had been teaching several subjects (topography, cartography, remote sensing, image processing, GIS, photogrammetry, etc..) at Palermo and Enna Universities as contract professor.
Currently he is involved in a training course about NZEB (Near zero energy building ,building automation and smart planning) within the i-NEXT project. In the Smartplanning Lab he is engaged on the following research fields: GIS, webGIS, mobile GIS, remote sensing, image processing, DBMSs design processes, open data & big data,  web paradigms and protocols, digital sensors.

Elena Giannola_Architect

Elena Giannola

Architect, she is a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning. She worked until 2012 in an engineering company specialized in photovoltaic plans and renewable energy sources. She has collaborated for teaching at the Department of Architecture of Palermo. Her research fields are: the relationships between social contest and urban policies, the new digital tools of urban space representation and their use in participatory processes, also in some local experiences. Elena Giannola works in the laboratory conducting a research about Energy Management, Renewable Energy Sources and Smart Grids, related with Regional Planning.

Salvatore Patanella_Architect

Salvatore Patanella

Architect, is an expert developer of innovative technological prototypes and brevets in the field of composite materials for sustainable construction and transport industry in the spin-off Pro-cube ltd.
In recent years he depeening his studies on the issues of mobility, transport and energy, with a focus on sustainable urban mobility and planning, environmental assessment, social and economic integration of transport policies. With a specialization in Temporary Space & Exhibition Design he is involved in the design of exhibition spaces for retail environments. In the laboratory he is conducting a research on sustainable mobility and transport infrastructure.
